HISTORIC TANGLEFOOT STUDIO SALE CELEBRATES 15 YEARS Elaine Dalcher, known for her bold and colorful oil paintings, will be exhibiting her new work which includes a series of collographs and monotypes on paper. Michael Pfleghaar is breaking away from familiar interior subjects to portray them in a more simple symbolic approach. By revisiting old themes that seem to reappear periodically throughout his career, Pfleghaar has developed a new visual vocabulary to portray these ideas in allegorical form. These allegories represent an artist's search for meaning in life and relationships. This new series of paintings and three-dimensional ceramic works will be featured during this year's sale. Pfleghaar received a BFA in Painting from Grand Valley State University in 1988 and exhibits throughout Michigan and in Palm Springs, California. Tommy Allen, a 1988 graduate of Calvin College, has exhibited Polaroid Image Transfers and Gigclee prints since the early 1990s. Until 1998, his work had only been exhibited in galleries and juried shows throughout Michigan. During 1998-2001 his work appeared in five New York City group shows and was invited to exhibit at the international Angelus Novus museum show in Perugia, Italy. In the New Century Artist exhibition (1998) held at New Yorks NoHo Gallery, Allen was the only artist selected outside the group of New York artists to be invited to this nationally juried show. Allen's recent photographic works reflect the quiet solitude of Michigans shoreline utilizing new photographic media techniques. Exploring themes presented in his early underwater figurative works, his new series of landscapes utilize simple imagery to depict complex human emotions. The Tanglefoot Studio Sale will be held Friday, November 18 from 5pm-8pm, Saturday, and Sunday, Nov 19 & 20 from Noon to 5pm. The Tanglefoot Warehouse is located at 314 Straight St. SW, Door K, (Between Wealthy and West Fulton). See Website for directions and previews. Tanglefoot Studio Refreshments will be served. |
